Greenville County EMS EMT Academy

Greenville County EMS has run an EMT academy since 2021, with pass rates well above the national and state averages. This class is for people who want to start a career in EMS and then work for our 911 ambulance service. If accepted as an academy student, you will be hired on as a part-time Greenville County EMS employee and paid during class. After successfully completing the class, you are expected to transition to a full-time EMT position and work a minimum of 2 years with Greenville County EMS. EMS schedules are generally 12-hour shifts that work an alternating schedule. This will include working every other weekend and holidays that fall on your rotation. This also includes being able to work night or day shifts.

Our next EMT Academy cohort begins August 17th, 2026 and runs for eight weeks, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This program combines classroom learning with hands-on experience to prepare students to become certified EMTs. Academy students receive $13.90/hr. during class.

A two-year work commitment is required.

The selection process begins in Early June and includes a panel interview, a citizen ride-along, and a placement test. These are not pass/fail events—they help us get to know you as a student and future EMT.

Application Process:

1. Click here to fill out the form.

The Deadline for the August cohort is June 3rd! Anything received afterwards will be pushed to the next class.

2. We will contact you with instructions on how to sign up for an interview.

3. Interview conducted.

4. If selected to continue, you will attend a HIPAA class, fill out a County application, and take a placement test.

5. You will then be scheduled for a 12-hour citizen ride-along to experience EMS firsthand.

Final acceptance is based on interview, test, and ride-time performance
