Education and Training

In the ever-changing world of medicine, the out-of-hospital provider has the challenge of "keeping up" with pre-hospital medical advancements. AT GCEMS we believe quality EMS education and training is the first step to improving the standard of care. Because we value the dedication our caregivers supply to the community we are committed to their medical educational needs.

GCEMS Employees have access to numerous educational opportunities that include:

  • Monthly in-service training
  • Physician lecture series at both Greenville Memorial and Saint Francis Hospital
  • Specialty training three times a year
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support, Advanced Stroke Life Support, and Advanced Medical Life Support

Quality Management and Improvement

GCEMS is dedicated to providing excellent pre-hospital care based upon evidence-based treatments; we let data drive our decisions in establishing clinical excellence. We do this by the following:

  • Data collection and analysis
  • Patient care report reviews
  • Quality Improvement meetings
  • Protocol review and assessment
Clinical Operating Guidelines

These standards have been developed according to widely accepted treatment practices at local, state, and national levels. These standards have been reviewed and endorsed by Martin Lutz M.D., Medical Director.

While treatment and transport decisions in the field vary, these guidelines can assist the pre-hospital provider by standardizing procedures for the most common and routine emergencies encountered, and will be considered the minimum standard. It is expected that good judgment will be used by the pre-hospital provider performing these skills. Please understand that these standards are to be used together with the standing orders, and with consideration of the level of training and certification of the provider.

Temporary Clinical Operating Guidelines

These temporary guidelines are in addition to the above standard Clinical Operating Guidelines. These temporary guidelines have been reviewed and endorsed by Martin Lutz M.D., Medical Director, and Matthew Cobb M.D., Assistant Medical Director.
