The Board consists of five (5) members and (2) alternates appointed by Greenville County Council for four (4) year terms. Membership must consist of at least one from each of the following categories:  engineer / building contractor / architect / building industry.

The building official is an ex-officio member of the board and does not have a vote on any matter before the board.

Board member qualifications:

• The individual is a registered design professional with architectural experience or a builder or superintendent of building construction with at least ten years of experience, five of which are in responsible charge of work.
• The individual is a registered design professional with structural engineering experience.
• The individual is a registered design professional with mechanical and plumbing engineering experience or a mechanical contractor with at least ten years of experience, five of which are in a responsible charge of work;
• The individual is a registered design professional with electrical engineering experience or an electrical contractor with at least ten years of experience, five of which are in responsible charge of work.
• The individual is a registered design professional with fire protection engineering experience or a fire protection contractor with at least ten years of experience, five of which are in responsible charge of work.
