Who We Are

Greenville County Animal Care Services began operations in September 2007. We are a full service, open-admissions animal shelter facility that serves Greenville County residents and their pets. We work collaboratively with Greenville Humane Society, who shares our facility, to provide intake, adoption and spay/neuter services. Greenville County Animal Care Services employees focus attention on the care and housing of all incoming animals. This includes animals that have been found as strays, including those brought in by animal control and by the public. In addition, we provide additional services for surrendered pets of Greenville County residents.

Lost or Found a Pet?

If you have lost your pet, please check out our lost and found pet list or come visit the shelter. An animal care technician will assist you as we walk you through the receiving facility to search for your lost pet. Even if the search is unsuccessful, we also offer a way for you to post a picture and description of your pet in our lost/found. If you have found a pet, please call us at 864-467-3950.

Found animals may be brought into our facility at no charge to the finder if the animal was found in the unincorporated areas of Greenville County and/or in another municipality that has a care service agreement established.

Rehoming Your Pet

If you can no longer care for your own pet and you would like to surrender it to our facility, we will accept your pet with applicable surrender fees. Due to the overwhelming numbers of animals that come into our facility, we are many times unable to house surrendered pets for more than a few days. Please use our facility as a last resort to rehoming your pet. We suggest that pet owners first try to advertise their pet in the newspaper or online, and consider breed-specific animal rescue groups for purebred animals and all-breed rescue groups for mixed breed pets.

Adopting a Friend

After holding our animals for the required hold period, we partner with Greenville Humane Society to provide adoption services. Humane Society representatives select as many animals as possible for adoption and these lucky pets are spayed/neutered, heartworm/feline leukemia tested, vaccinated and health-checked. To adopt a pet that you have seen on our lost and found list, please visit www.greenvillehumane.com and complete a request form. An adoption counselor will contact you once the animal has been held for its required hold period and has been selected for adoption. Please understand that most of the animals viewable on our Petfinder site are strays and/or abandoned, and must be held by law for a period of not less than five days. If you find a pet that you are interested in, please understand that it may not be available for adoption immediately.
