Mission Statement
The Greenville County Detention Center Division is dedicated to and will practice humane, safe, legally compliant, secure, and sanitary detention and incarceration. Detainees and inmates will be properly classified, supervised, and humanely treated. Detention operations will be humane and cost effective. Detention personnel will be professional and responsive to citizens’ concerns. Management and staff priorities will include realistic career development, participative decision making, continuous improvement, strategic planning, employee development, training and safety.

Programs
All Work Release participants are sentenced through Family Court which is a civil matter and not criminal. Each participant is solely employed by the company and subject to the same employment rules as anyone else to include work clothing and/or uniforms. They are paid the same except they are required to turn their payroll checks into the Work Release Facility to have the wages disbursed as follows: 65% to Family Court (or as ordered), 25% to GCDC for Program Fees ($75.00 weekly maximum), and 10% to their canteen account to purchase necessities, toiletries, etc.

Several self-help and awareness classes are offered to all inmates at GCDC. These include two different parenting classes, Alcohol Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Aids Awareness and Prevention, and Religious Services. All these programs are offered free of charge by outside agencies who come to the facilities.

The Detention Chaplain oversees our religious volunteer program; community members whom generously give their time providing inmates with spiritual counseling.
