Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission The Phoenix Center Behavioral Health Services
Purpose(s)/Service(s): The commission is the designated county authority for alcohol and drug abuse services and conducts a continuing study of the countys alcohol and drug abuse needs to determine ways to meet those needs. It seeks to provide to all citizens of Greenville County affordable, accessible and high-quality services aimed at reducing negative health, social, and economic consequences resulting from the use of alcohol and other drugs. Enabling Legislation: Act of the SC General Assembly No. 140 of 1973. The Greenville County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse is a non-profit public agency created
in 1973 by state legislation. The commission consists of twelve (12) members appointed by the
Governor upon recommendation of County Council. Members serve for three (3) year terms. Vacancies
are filled in the same manner as the original appointment for the unexpired portion of the term only.
Members serve without compensation and any member may be removed for cause. Powers and duties
