This month we are introducing Kirstin Ravan, Operations Supervisor serving since July 2012.

What is your favorite quote, saying, or motto?

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?”

What is your greatest achievement in life so far?

My relationship with my husband, Kevin. Kevin and I have been married since 2013, but have been together since 2008. We are great teammates in life, who hold each other accountable and push each other past their limits. Over the past 16 years, we have accomplished many things in our personal and professional lives that would not be possible without each other.

What is your #1 pet peeve?

Having the toilet paper turned the correct way.

What is your most memorable moment in your EMS career?

Being a part of the transfer into GCEMS' new home at 225 S Pleasantburg Drive from 301 University Ridge.

What is your favorite movie or play?

“Swiss Family Robinson.” Release date December 21, 1960. This movie is probably my favorite because it shows you in life you may have to overcome challenges that are thrown your way. It is all about what you make of them as they arise. As an individual, you can choose to make the worst or the best of the circumstances at hand.

What would constitute a perfect EMS crew member?

Someone who makes mistakes but learns from the mistakes. Never gives up, adapts and overcomes, and strives for growth and development to become a better person personally and professionally.

What is your best kept secret?

Could I even tell you my best-kept secret since it’s a secret for a reason right? Okay. Yes. I believe it would have to be I take a lot of pictures. Currently, on my iPhone from 2014 to the present, I have 77,286 photos and 2,372 videos. If you are asking do I look at these photos? Yes, I go back frequently and look at old photos regularly.

What would you consider your worst habit?

Procrastination.

Who is your greatest inspiration in your life?

My Uncle Arthur and Aunt Karen. My Aunt and Uncle raised their entire family when my grandparents passed away. My father was 8 years old at the time. My Uncle Arthur and Aunt Karen raised all the Collins Family children and postponed having their own family until all his brothers and sisters were out of the house. My Uncle Arthur always was the rock in the family and did whatever was necessary to assist anyone if they needed any help. My uncle passed away on November 20, 2023, but he will never be forgotten as a man who did the most selfless acts of kindness to ensure that his family stayed together. His sacrifice as a young man has made a meaningful impact on how I was raised and has assisted me to become the person I am today.

What is your favorite food item?

One which would be my last meal. A ribeye steak, baked potato, and Caesar salad.

What would be considered luxury to you?

To own a home on Lake Jocassee.

If you could meet anyone in the history of the world, who and why?

Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson was the author of the Declaration of Independence and the third U.S. president. As a teenager, I visited Monticello, the home Thomas Jefferson retired in, and have been fascinated by his history ever since.

What would your epitaph say?

I plan on being cremated and would not have a tombstone. However, if I did, I would have to take a little more time to think about what it would say. Spur of the moment would be “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. – Ralph Waldo Emerson”

What is your favorite type of music?

I like all types of genres of music. Country music would be my favorite. However, my favorite artists are Taylor Swift and Koe Wetzel.

Where would you like to grow old?

Living in a mountain lake house with my husband.
