What is land fraud?
Land fraud is the deliberate act of falsifying information on transactions such as deeds, mortgages, or appraisals for personal gain or to damage another individual.

How do I know if I am a victim of land fraud?
It only takes a few minutes of your time to ensure that you have not been a victim of land fraud. The Greenville County Register of Deeds offers to-the-minute information on our website. This public website allows you to access the current records at any given time. Simply follow the links and directions below to ensure that you have not been a victim of land fraud.

  1. Click the link to the left "SEARCH PUBLIC RECORDS;" then click "Search Records after 1990."

  2. Bookmark SEARCH PUBLIC Records page

  3. Click "I Accept" at the bottom of the Welcome screen.
  4. Click the link to the left "Search Real Estate Index"
  5. Type in your name starting with your last name first, space, and then your first name
    - example: "Smith John"
  6. All documents recorded from 1990 – present under your name will appear (please keep in mind that there may be others with your same name.)
  7. You can easily identify your property using the information given across the rows
    - Date filed, name, and legal description are all very helpful tools.
  8. If you would like to view the actual document, click on the icon to the far right of the row that looks similar to a piece of paper.
What do I do if I have been victimized?
Immediately contact your local police and inform them of your situation. You may also want to contact an attorney for legal assistance.
