Get to know the Greenville County Comprehensive Plan.

WHY:

Greenville County has experienced significant demographic, economic, and land use change since the adoption of Imagine Greenville County in 2009. One of the impacts of this change is that the community is ripe for a visionary, inspiring plan to move Greenville County boldly forward.

WHO:
Greenville County has engaged a consultant team led by the planning and urban design firm MKSK. The MKSK Team includes national and local subject-area specialists from the following firms: Orion Planning + Design; Conduit Planning; Richard Caplan & Associates; Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering; and Black & Veach, which is leading a concurrent strategic planning effort for Renewable Water Resources (ReWa).

WHERE:
The project area is Greenville County, in the heart of the Upstate region of South Carolina with a land area of 785 square miles. Greenville County is the most populous county in the state with over 490,000 residents and contains 6 cities and 16 Census-Designated Places.

WHAT:
The project scope of work can be described as developing a Comprehensive Plan for Greenville County in accordance with the provisions of the South Carolina Local Government Comprehensive Planning Enabling Act of 1994 (S.C. Code § 6-29-310 through § 6-29-380). Comprehensive plans are to be developed every ten years and reevaluated at five-year increments. Technical land use planning activities, economic and fiscal impact analysis, and community outreach and engagement support services will be conducted in support of this effort.

HOW:
Through an iterative process of sharing, critiquing, and refining plan concepts and alternatives, the Project Team will collaborate with a Core Team of County staff, a Stakeholder Advisory Committee, appointed and elected officials, and the citizens of Greenville County towards a shared vision for the future of Greenville County.

WHEN:
The planning effort kicked off in November 2018 and will conclude in October 2019.
