Mattie's Second Chance
Mattie and Mel - A Story of Second Chances
Mattie and Mel

Because of you and supporters like you, Mattie went from spending life on a chain to settling into her loving forever home. The story of Mattie and her new mom, Mel, is best told by her. We hope you enjoy this happy update:

"So she's lovely. Obviously I had no idea what to expect out of her when she got home, but she took residence on the couch. She won't share her couch. Not that she's mean - she can't stop loving on me. And we have some things in common. I love 3 pm naps. She does too. Sometimes she goes to work with me. I work at a hardware store and she loves visiting. People there adore her.

Mattie Napping

Wanting to spoil her, I've tried different treats. She obliterates everything. Cow hooves? She expects a new one every morning and I've recently run out, which she flat out won't let me forget about. I told her she has other stuff, and she's patient but, then again, she IS out of cow hooves and that's unacceptable.

Our walks are fun. I live in a quiet place and she listens well. She makes me walk, makes me talk to her, makes me play in the street and enjoy the day. If I'm not up to snuff she ensures things will be okay. It's like she knows she can help if I'm feeling low.

Oh! She's smart! A small handful of food is enough to teach tricks. She got "paw" and "lay" in one sitting each, and now she does them for EVERYONE. If we run she keeps with me, knowing I'm slower than her. If she sees kids she instantly thinks "play". Cats? Loves 'em, must play. She doesn't understand anything ignoring her or not wanting to cuddle or play. Everyone has treats. Everything needs investigation. But at around 6-7 at night, she crashes. All that energy goes right out the window and she swears she won't ever leave the couch. I could go on about her for hours! She's lovely and loves challenging me just a little."

You can help animals like Mattie get their second chance by continuing to support our Second Chance Fund and join us in building a no kill community in 2017. Every dollar brings us one step closer to saving them all.
