  • Landfill, Recycling Center Tours and Presentations: The Solid Waste Division offers tours of the Landfill and Recycling Center as well as in-school presentations. If you are interested in touring the landfill, or if you would like an in-school presentation, please contact the Environmental Education Specialist at 243-9672. We also encourage you to involve your students in the classes at the Roper Mountain Science Center designed for the Compost Education Garden. Call 281-1188 for more information.

  • Action for a Cleaner Tomorrow: developed for teachers by DHEC and recognized nationally. This is a comprehensive environmental curriculum that helps teachers integrate source reduction and recycling into the classroom. Classes on the curriculum are offered periodically by the Roper Mountain Science Center.
  • Solid Waste Composting Guidance for Non-Regulated Facilities: Provides guidelines for composting at schools.
  • Oil Bottle Guy and Aluminum Can Guy Mascots: Available for public presentations.
  • The Palmetto Energy Awards Program: students submit projects promoting energy savings. Sponsored by the SC Energy Office and DHEC
  • America Recycles Day Recycling Family of the Year and School of the Year: Contents and awards every fall.
  • School Reduction and Recycling Grant Program: Awarded each year to subjects submitting applications for hands-on, worthwhile projects. Your school principal is sent a copy of the announcement each year.
