The Section is staffed on a twenty-four hour, seven-day per week basis. All employees of the Crime Scene Section are police officers, certified by the State of South Carolina, and must have at least two years of prior service as a commissioned law enforcement officer. Although not currently required, most employees have college degrees in related fields of study. Employees routinely receive advanced forensic training in areas such as blood pattern analysis, fingerprint matters, accident investigation, and homicide investigation. Employees are responsible for the follow up processing of evidence they collect from the crime scene along with the preparation of detailed reports detailing their crime scene investigation. They are required to give testimony in judicial proceedings on a regular basis regarding their crime scene investigations and actions taken.
