Welcome
GCEMS is the exclusive 9-1-1 provider for Greenville County and has fifteen full-time
24/7 and four 12/7 ALS ambulances located strategically throughout the county. Our
ambulances are supplemented by six quick response vehicles and medically trained
fire department 1st response system. All of our EMS units are equipped to handle a
large variety of medical or traumatic emergencies. The system uses progressive
standing orders to provide for the majority of the patients medical needs prior to
contact with a physician. In addition to standing orders, the system uses protocols
and participation in State approved pilot projects to perform additional procedures
such as advanced airway maintenance via rapid sequence intubations (RSI) and to administer
fibrinolytics used in the treatment of acute coronary syndrome. GCEMS is responsible
for the majority of medical emergency calls within the county, with a volume of
approximately 60,000 calls per year. Convalescent and inter-hospital transfer
services are provided by private ambulance services.
