Mission
The mission of GC-VOAD is to bring together voluntary organizations to assist
the residents of Greenville County in the event of a disaster, to coordinate service
delivery planning and reduce duplication of services to people affected by disaster.
Objectives
GC-VOAD supports the values of the National
VOAD movement: Cooperation, Communication, Coordination, and Collaboration.
GC-VOAD will achieve its purpose through the following:
- Working to create a climate for cooperation at all levels and providing information
- Coordinating policies and actions among member organizations
- Disseminating information through regular meetings before and during disaster situations
- Evaluating disaster responses and making recommendations for improvements in coordinated response
- Providing training in disaster preparedness for member organizations
- Supporting the mitigation efforts of federal, state, and local government agencies
- Convening regularly scheduled meetings as agreed upon by agencies and additional meetings during times of disaster as needed. In addition, focused committees and/or task forces will be convened as needed to address specific issues determined by member organizations.
- Encouraging any organization or agency that provides disaster relief to be represented by completing a Member Organization Profile and attending meetings
To carry out its goals, GC-VOAD will assume responsibility for convening organizations
committed to working together in disaster response on a year-round basis. It should be
understood that GC-VOAD has no role in providing direct services to victims of disaster. All
such services are provided by and under the auspices member organizations.
