Saving Lives One Ring at a Time
GCEMS Communications is the heart of EMS Operations. Our Communications Center processes over 40,000 calls a year including twelve Fire Departments, Med-trans (helicopter service), and the Coroner's Office.

When an emergency call comes in it is answered by a local Public Safety Answering Point. The call is then transferred to EMS communications, where the call taker obtains information from the caller. The following information will be needed: The location where you are calling from, the closest cross street, the telephone number, the emergency, age of patient, the status of patient (are they conscious and breathing). You will be asked to stay on the line for further instructions and will be assured that help is on the way.

The information that you have given the call taker is entered into the Computer Aided Dispatch system and sent to the dispatcher responsible for sending the closest ambulance to your emergency.

Our Communications Center staff consists of a Lieutenant of Communications, Lieutenant of Communications Technology, four Communications Corporals, and Twelve Communications Specialists medically trained to provide and to assist you with with first aid instructions until help arrives.

We as Communications Specialists of the County of Greenville take pride in the getting the closest appropriate equipment and personnel to your emergency.
