Sterling Community Special Tax District

Purpose(s)/Service(s): provides for lights, litter control, control of other health hazards and maintenance of entrances, etc.
Enabling Legislation: Greenville County Council Ordinance No. 2214, effective 1/15/1991.
Pursuant to South Carolina Code: 4-9-30(5)(a)

Pursuant to Section 4-9-30(5)(a) of the Code of Laws of South Carolina, Ordinance No. 2214 created the Sterling Community Special Tax District. The purpose of this district is to provide, within the district, for the health, safety, and welfare by installing and maintaining streetlights, control litter and other health hazards along the public rights-of-way, and maintain and promote improvement for the entrance/exit, and rights-of-way.

The Sterling Community Tax District Commission is the governing body of this special tax district and consists of five (5) members appointed by County Council. All members of the Commission shall reside within the geographical boundaries of the special tax district. County Council shall fill vacancies on the Commission for the remainder of the unexpired term. The Commission shall be responsible for maintaining and operating the tax district in accordance with the purposes set forth in Section 3 of Ordinance 2214. The Commission shall adopt its own rules and operating procedures.
