Butch Kirven, Vice Chair
Mr. Kirven was born in Sumter, South Carolina, and grew-up in Anderson. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Presbyterian College. He also graduated from the U. S. Army War College, the Army's graduate school of National Security and Strategic Studies.
Mr. Kirven is a military veteran. He retired with the rank of brigadier general, Army National Guard, and served in Operation Noble Eagle following the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. Mr. Kirven currently serves as the Honorary Chairman of Greenville Countyís Joint Veterans Council.
Mr. Kirven is the current chairman of the National Guard Association of the United States' Special Building Committee overseeing the National Guard Memorial Building in Washington, DC. He is a past president of the National Guard Association of South Carolina, past president of the Presbyterian College Alumni Association and former member of the P. C. Board of Visitors. He is a former chairman of the Simpsonville Area Chamber of Commerce, and a former director of the National Guard Association of the United States.
Mr. Kirven held no public office prior to his 2004 election to Greenville County Council. He was re-elected in 2008, and again in 2012. He served as chairman of County Council for four consecutive 2-year terms, from 2005 to 2013.
In January 2013, he was elected chairman of the Greenville-Pickens Area Transportation Study (GPATS) Policy Committee.
Mr. Kirven serves on County Councilís Finance Committee as Chairman.
