Mark W. Tollison

Mark W. Tollison has been with the County Attorney's Office since 1999.
Mark has over 15 years experience in local government matters, including legal, legislative, and administrative concerns. As part of his background, Mark spent six years with the South Carolina of Association of Counties, serving as Senior Staff Attorney, providing legal assistance to individual counties and handling issues at the state level as a lobbyist. Mark received a B.A. in Economics from Clemson University in 1984 and a Master's Degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1988. After working as a planner in North Carolina and Georgia, Mark received his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1992. During his final year of law school, he served as Articles Editor for the ABA Real Property, Probate, and Trust Journal. Mark is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, Greenville County Bar, International Municipal Lawyers Association, South Carolina Association of County Attorneys, and the South Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association. Mark is the immediate past president of the South Carolina Association of County Attorneys. Mark is a Part-time Lecturer at Clemson University in the Planning and Landscape Architecture Department where he teaches Land Use Law and Growth Management. Mark also serves on the faculty of the South Carolina Academy for Planning run by the South Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association in conjunction with Clemson University and the University of South Carolina. Mark has authored numerous publications on South Carolina land use and zoning law and practice. As Greenville County Attorney, Mark currently provides professional legal representation and administrative support for the County as an entity, members of County Council, elected officials and County Departments, and offers guidance to citizens of the community. He regularly drafts, reviews and approves, as to form, legal documents, including deeds, contracts, leases, dedication instruments, various pleadings, bond and other financing documents, resolutions and ordinances. |
Mark also handles issues concerning zoning, subdivision development, public works, code enforcement,
and special tax/purpose districts.
