Qualifications, Disqualifications and Exemptions
To qualify for jury service in Circuit Court you must be a citizen of the United States
and a resident of Greenville County, South Carolina. You may be disqualified for jury
service if you have been convicted of a crime punishable by a sentence of more than one
year, have less than a sixth grade education, are unable to read or speak English, or have
a mental or physical disability.
You have the option of serving or being excused from jury duty if you are sixty-five or older, or if you are the sole provider of care for a child of your own who is seven years of age or younger. You may be transferred to another week, or possibly excused, if you have a medical condition that would make your jury service impossible or unnecessarily burdensome, or if you are a full time student. |
To receive a medical excuse you will need to provide a current doctors statement describing
your inability to serve.
You should read over the front of your juror summons for the details of these disqualifications and exemptions. Write on the juror response form any information you have as to your disqualification or exemption, then sign and date the form. You should return the form promptly to the Clerks office. If you have further questions or concerns about jury service, you may read further under Jury Duty or call the jury clerk at 467-8553. |
