Postponement of Jury Services
We know that jury service is inconvenient and somewhat of a hardship to everyone. However, if the week for which you have been summoned is a particularly bad week, then you might qualify to be transferred to another week during the calendar year. State law does not permit the Clerk or a judge to excuse you from service simply because of inconvenience, but a judge can transfer you under certain circumstances.

If you are unable to perform your jury service on the dates shown on your summons, you may contact the jury clerk at 467-8553 during business hours to ask about a postponement. This telephone number can also be found in the body of the letter you received along with your summons. Please explain to the jury clerk the nature of your particular hardship for that week. You may also request a transfer by writing your request on the back of the summons and returning it by mail. We will notify you when we receive your request.

Some circumstances prevent the judge from transferring anyone. But usually you may be transferred to almost any week during the current calendar year since court runs almost all the time. Please have your calendar ready to discuss with the jury clerk the week or weeks that you can serve.
